I am told that, as at 11 October 2007, there have been 1112 “hits” on this site in less than a week. Quite remarkable for a homeowners’ association with a membership of about 1 350. Well done, Marina residents, and keep the comments coming. My thanks to Warren who gave us this space to speak up.

Fortunately for the people of the Marina, Council has made the decision not to ratify the constitution of this homeowners’ association and they have asked for a proper consultation process to be followed.

It is therefore extremely sad that Excom has seen fit to adopt the attitude that they do not care what anyone says or does. Excom is even prepared to defy a Council resolution and to accept clearly incorrect minutes in order to get what they want! And what they want is not security – that was just the smokescreen. They want the right to charge an unlimited monthly levy. Have you noticed that they now propose voluntary security schemes but they want us all to pay for the administration thereof? I guess someone still wants her R20 000.00 a month half day job with an assistant at R10 000.00 a month.

Excom seems to be unable to accept that the Marina residents are intelligent enough to see through the smokescreen. I, quite frankly, do understand why they are so scared of a public participation process or a referendum. They will never get the majority vote and then the R3 million a year goes out the window.

What I cannot comprehend is why Excom members are prepared to tarnish their names in this manner. The way in which Excom has handled this whole affair has been scandalous. The arrogance, the bullying, the insults and the blatant lies in the past have been mind-boggling, but this last “Pink Paper” was the ultimate affront. Excom frankly admits that Council had made a mistake in their minutes, but then they are prepared to perpetuate the blunder quite cheerfully! This is, in my mind, an open and deliberately stated intent to cheat. What boggles the mind is that they seem so proud of it! How can Excom hope to get away with it? Surely not even the proponents of the security plan can find this acceptable?

The bottom line is: The Association’s constitution has still not been ratified. Council’s report was rejected and thrown out. Excom cannot prove that the constitution is legitimate simply because there is no proof, and they cannot implement the changes. So, as a previous comment read so politely – “go away”.
