PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND TRANSPARENCY

Talk of a ‘Public Participation Process’ is misplaced; the Council itself accepts that changes to our constitution are a private matter between members, so there is no public to be consulted. There will be no referendum, and we don’t need any further interference from Council in our internal affairs.

Excom is aware that members and others have used the media to air their alleged grievances in public. It does not want its communications with members to be the subject of public debate, when the ill-informed or those with an axe to grind can indulge their flights of fancy.

We have nothing to discuss with you on security.

Our ExCom members in Park Island have received this notice and attachments. Greg has asked me not to publish this widely as ******** did not want the bad publicity nor would it fare well with our objectors who would only criticise the guarding solution in Park Island. They might also use this next time they write to the press. It would also be bad press for the security provider – no matter which one that might be.

e-mail Elaine Meyer to ExCom Members forwarded to Anita Koetsier by Peter Harrison on 8 March 2007.

Your requests for information were considered at the Excom meeting on 15th January. There was a view expressed that we should refuse to assist you in any way, since you are trying actively to frustrate the wishes of the majority of or (sic) members. Nor is it accepted that you are entitled to demand the production of documents, or seek to impose deadlines for compliance with your demands. Having said that however, my policy, as a matter of common courtesy, is to accommodate members’ reasonable requests for information, if it can be done without imposing too much on my available time. You appear to be labouring under a misconception about the provenance of the Association; so I will provide you with a summary of its history, which you can if you so wish, verify from documents which are publicly available at the Council’s offices.

I have not yet obtained possession of all the original documents; but have reconstructed the history from what we have.

We really don’t have the time to write personal letters to everyone who wants to ride a hobby-horse. I do not intend to engage in protacted correspondence with you, so if you respond to this message, I can do no more than acknowledge receipt.

When asked why non-resident members (members who rent out their homes or only live in the Marina for part of the year) did not receive notification of the meeting, Elaine Meyer – Liaison ExCom Member answered that they were notified by e-mail. The member said that her mother, a non-resident member, never received notice as she does not have e-mail, but ExCom do manage to post her account to her, upon which she was told: We will phone the old bat in the case of a hang-vote. by a member of the meeting. She was also told to phone the offices the next day.

… but there was no ritual posturing, or attempt to digress into irrelevancies, of the type we are used to hearing at AGMs.
Peter Harrison – Chairman June 2006 Newsletter.

(Evidently Objectors being told to shut up and sit down and the mothers being called an old bat does not count.)

I am particularly pleased to record a genuine feeling that we are at last pulling together as a community. Long may that spirit continue.

Peter Harrison – Chairman June 2006 Newsletter.

(If pulling together means being told that they will phone the old bat in the case of a hang-vote or being told to shut up and sit down , Mr. Harrison is certainly perpetuating the spirit of the meeting, as can be seen in the following:)

EXCOM’S THREATS TO RESIDENTS

Our lawyers have advised that they will write to the complainants should they repeat these allegations against either the association or the individuals concerned, to warn them of the legal sanctions they face.

ExCom: September 2006 Security Bulletin

-o0o-

We will continue to deal robustly with any and all objections. Some members have asked why we have not attempted to refute publicity made against us in the media. We may have to do so – but not by engaging in a public debate with a few misguided individuals, who are not interested in the facts and whom we will never convince otherwise.

ExCom: September 2006 Security Bulletin

Another cheap shot. If these individuals have specific allegations of malpractice, let them say so publicly, in detail, and face the consequences.

Peter Harrison – Chairman: November 2006 Security Bulletin.

(About unscrupulous practices by leadership. Mr. Harrison was aware of all the allegations as they have been made a matter of public record, there for all to see.)
