The following is a delightful little story told by our Chairman in his final Report (let’s hope) to the good people of the Marina Da Gama. (Names have been changed and some artistic licence protect the innocent.)
Pietie had two children, with vastly different personalities.
De La Rey was a pessimist and was never happy whatever his parents did for him. Little Bobby was an eternal optimist whom nothing could upset.
At Christmas, Pietie filled the childrens’ rooms with *appropriate* presents. De La Rey received a new constitution, a fine and lots of lip. When Pietie looked in, De La Rey was sitting angrily in the corner and he asked him what was wrong.
”That constitution will bankrupt me, I cannot afford to paint my house, never mind pay a fine, and I can do without your lip.” he said.
Next door little Bobby was romping delightedly in a big pile of manure.
“And what has Father Christmas brought you dear?” asked Pietie. “I think I got a pony” replied Bobby, “but I haven’t found it yet!”
So here is Mr Harrison’s advice to Excom - just ignore all the S…t you get and keep looking for that Pony!
I do have news for Bobby though!! S…t stinks, it sticks, PONIES DO NOT HIDE IN IT and you are about to get it by the wagon-load!!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackOn a more serious note, it’s quite shameful that the Chairman either disregards or doesn’t understand his fiduciary duties towards his members. The Chairman’s Report is a formal report in which the Chairman is called to account to the members on association business. Instead our Chairman uses the AGM and this Report to name drop, blow his own horn, tell jokes and call people names - all in decidedly poor taste. Mr Chairman, we don’t care that you are so involved in various charities (as you’ve been rubbing in our faces AD NAUSEUM), have been appointed Chairman of the Muizenburg Historical Society (clearly another job nobody wants) and are bosom buddies with our local ward councillor. Why don’t you just practice what you preach, commit yourself to a charity full-time and go about your business quietly and with dignity?
